Goodbye September and welcome October ......... 🦅

Wow, October is now here, and in our Northern Hemisphere, the days are flush with falling leaves, cooling weather, and growing anticipation for the holiday season. October's tenth month by our Gregorian calendar shares a root with octopus and octagon—the Latin octo and Greek okto, meaning “eight.” It is an indication of October's position in the early Roman calendar.

October is a month where the saying” What goes around comes around” rings true, with karmic spiritual energy of correcting wrongs and doing right. October augers in the true spirit of the Tiger, so find the light within you, find the spirit to take on all adversaries and illnesses, and consciously wish yourself a better, healthier, happier life.

October is the perfect month for manifesting your wants and desires. If you actively pursue your dreams and enjoy the journey with all its obstacles, rewards will be found. The three laws of spiritual manifestation are good Intentions, do no harm, and unbiased passion.

Your Karma this month is but a reflection of your spiritual morals. If you dislike something within you, don’t disown it, for the disowned causes chaos. Embrace it, cleanse it, purify it, and turn its previous energies of negativity into positivity.

Never forget ......... 🦅

We should put aside the politics of America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan and remember the reason we went there in the first place. 

None of my students in China were born 21 years ago when the tragic event of 9/11 occurred. But that doesn’t stop me from taking a moment to speak about it in my classes. 

Every year around this time, I always take a moment to tell my students about the event or, should I say, the attack on our country on September 11, 2001. 

Three years ago, one of my students said her parents watched the event unfold on CCTV in China, and they were just as shocked by the attack as we Americans. 

Every American should take a moment to reflect on this moment in American history, especially on its 21st anniversary ......... 🦅

The 25th anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa .......🦅

Saint Mother Teresa was born on August 26th, in 1910, and she died on September 5th, 1997. She was made a Saint on October 19th, 2003, on my Birthday, but that is purely coincidental. 

In 1992, I volunteered my services with the Missionaries of Charity for eight months. It was truly an extraordinary experience that profoundly changed me for the better. I fed patients and washed their clothes and bed linens by hand. It was hard work, but I truly felt that I was there for a reason and that my being there was not coincidental.

I enjoyed talking with Saint Mother Teresa and her Nuns every evening outside on her veranda near her private chapel. On several occasions, she invited me to Breakfast at the Mother House, and she took an interest in me and where I was from. I told her about the poverty in Schuylkill County and how depressed the county is.

She was very intuitive when it came to us volunteers, and she made us feel special, especially regarding the work we were doing.

Every evening I would meditate in her private chapel, and she would drop a small plastic rosary in my hand. It became almost like a game, my meditating, and suddenly, a plastic rosary dropping into my hand.

Once she asked me, “what is that you are doing in the chapel?”

“I meditate in your Chapel,” I said to her.

“You meditate on what?” She asked.

“I believe the spirit of God is in all things,” I said to her, “I’m more spiritual than religious.”

Her reply, “when you’re in God’s chapel,” she paused then went on to say, “hold the rosary in your hand, then you can do your own thing.”

Volunteers worked with the Missionaries of Charity from all religions, various religious sects, and nationalities worldwide. But she never once tried to convert people to her brand of religion, and she felt her mission was to be the presence of God to others.

She also never tried to convert the patients she cared for, all of her centers in India were named after Hindu deities, like Prem Dan and Kalighat.  In other parts of the world, her centers were given generic names like, ‘Gift of peace,’ ‘Gift of hope,’ ‘Gift of mercy,’ and ‘Gift of love,’ the reason being she did not want to offend non-Christians, and she felt the spirit of love transcends all of the world’s religions.

The day before I left India, she asked me to volunteer with her Aids center in Washington, DC. I did that for one year before accepting a Maryland State Government position.

The last time I saw Saint Mother Teresa, she said, “You are now a witness to the mighty power of love,” and I believed her. I believed her wholeheartedly because you can’t accomplish what she accomplished without the spirit of love backing you up .......🦅

Goodbye August and Hello September ....... ✌🦅

The September month should focus on finishing those uncompleted tasks, rectifying and improving your current situation because, after all, we all need some self-improvement. So, find some uninterrupted time to search within, have a good look at who you are now, take note of what still needs healing, and most of all, find forgiveness in your heart for yourself and others.

We should also take time to put ourselves in another person’s shoes rather than being overly judgmental. In doing so, you will relinquish your selfishness, and you will move closer to recognizing the universal love that encompasses us and everything around us. Self-tune yourself to the world around you, and usher in love and healing. This is the core meaning of the number 9, and September is the 9th month of the year.

September comes from the Latin root septem-, meaning “seven,” because in the original Roman republican calendar, September was the seventh month of the year rather than the ninth. The Roman calendar was only 10 months long and included the following months: Martius, Aprilis, Maius, Junius, Quintilis, Sextilis, September, October, November, and December ....... ✌🦅
